1. The Federal Arsenal ... John Brown ... The Civil War ... and that's only the start of this great National Park.

 

2. We stayed at this Bed and Breakfast that used to be Stonewall Jackson's headquarters at the beginning of the Civil War. There were no hauntings  to report, but here is a picture of the room.

 

3. Lewis and Clark ... the road could be considered to start here. Also, see where it ends.

 

 

 

 

By 1860, East and West Virginia shared vast differences. The western part wanted to become its own state ... but Virginia wouldn't let that happen! However, when Virginia seceded from the Union, the US government allowed the western part to become its own state if they remained in the Union. Hence, in 1863, West Virginia became a state! Take that Regular Virginia!
