Mr. Klaff is fascinated by the Civil War. Interstate 95 echoes the major battles fought from 1861-1865. Civil War aside, Virginia is rich in early American history. Jamestown, as well as Williamsburg were early colonial settlements. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and Patrick Henry were all Virginians. If you know your history, you can walk around the streets of Virginia and point out historical figures left and right. Unbeknownst to me ... we stumbled upon a historical shrine just outside of North Carolina ...

If you are interested in Freemasonry, or George Washington, you have to check out this memorial in Alexandria. CLICK HERE.

Robert E. Lee - a true Southerner loyal to Virginia. But did you know how far away from DC he grew up? Try 5 miles!

"But what about West Virginia, Mr. Klaff?" Ah ha! I've been there too ... by 1860, East and West Virginia shared vast differences. The western part wanted to become its own state ... but Virginia wouldn't let that happen! However, when Virginia seceded from the Union, the US government allowed the western part to become its own state if they remained in the Union. Hence, in 1863, West Virginia became a state!
