If you are ever driving out of Chicago to Iowa, you will pass this historical house in Galena, Illinois. Ulysses S. Grant lived here when the Civil War broke out. He later moved back to this house. His store, the "Grant and Perkins" which he ran with a man by the name of Charles Perkins, sold saddles and other leather goods. Grant is buried today in New York.
