1. Vladamir, and Yaroslav the Wise, supported adopting Byzantine Christianity for the Russian people, notably in Kiev c1000CE. Kiev was a center of trade for Russians, Vikings, and northern Slavic people.

2. The Mongol Empire controlled the Russian people for over 250 years.

3. When Russia became independent from Mongol rule in 1480, influences of Byzantine culture were still present. An example is the Cyrillic alphabet which has connections to Slavic people who traded in Constantinople.
