THE ENTIRE EAST COAST IN LESS THAN A WEEK?
New York,
Boston, Richmond, DC, Charleston, Savannah, St. Augustine, Atlanta, or
Disneyworld in 6 days ... yes, I said 6 days ... It CAN be done! If
you are like me, you want to see as much as you can in the shortest
amount of time.
Day 1 –
Fly from wherever you are to Boston for the earliest start. Rent Car.
Begin.
MUST SEE – If you are pressed for time, and of course we are (we have
to be in New Jersey by nightfall) you have to take the world famous
Ducktour. Tickets are 29 dollars, and you can get them at
www.bostonducktours.com.
The tour will begin at the Science Library, or Prudential Center, and
take you all over Boston in 80 minutes. They will get much of the
historical stuff on the Freedom Trail. At the end of the tour, be sure
to stay in Quincy Market for lunch. Great seafood is available … try
the whole-fried clams, you just can’t go wrong! Tours depart
frequently throughout the day, with the first tour starting at 9 AM.
Now, if
you somehow flew into Logan Airport, got the car, and took the duck
tour by lunch, then you are in good shape. But if you had a long
flight, relax! There is still plenty of time. Because the duck tour
covered much of what we wanted to do, you really don’t need to be out
of Boston until the late afternoon.
Baseball fan or not, you WANT TO SEE Fenway Park. If there is a
day game, and you somehow got tickets, then great job. But, even if
the Sox are out of town, then you can still take the Fenway Park tour.
It’s only $8, and you get to see more of the ballpark than you would
if you paid $300 with a ticket broker for a game. The tour will take
you throughout the different seats, including the Monster Seats! I
have taken this tour twice. Once, they brought us on the field to the
warning track. Another time, it was close to the gametime, so we
settled for the Monster Seats.
If it is
not 3 PM yet, we have a bit more time … If it is 3 PM – start driving
South!
DON’T
HAVE TO, BUT IF TIME PERMITS – I prefer to walk the Freedom Trail of
Boston. (Click for full Freedom Trail Tour) For the exception of the USS Constitution, the Freedom Trail
is very walkable with some of the attractions right next to each
other. If you have an hour to spare, you may want to check out Old
Ironsides herself, and get onto the boat. Boston, also has a great
hands on Science Museum. You may want to check that out before going
on the Ducktour, since it is near where you get your tickets. There is
also a great Children’s Museum … but honestly, if you are doing this
type of tour with a 5 year old, you are out of your mind.
