This is the Millennium Monument in Heroes Square, Budapest. It was erected to mark the 1000 year anniversary of Hungary being settled by the Magyars (896). In fact, the language of Hungary is Magyar, and the country is not called Hungary in Magyar, it is called Magyar Köztársaság. Got it? Good. Well, to mark the Millennium, the city of Budapest started building like crazy in a decade long festival and celebration. Here are some of the building structures that were made during this time period. Some buildings even have 96 steps to mark the date. Problem is, some of these buildings were finished after the magical year (like the monument).

This furnicular leads up to the Castle District.

This one is my favorite ... Fisherman's Bastion.

The Parliament is a main attraction in Budapest. It probably looks better when it's not snowing outside.
