Answer: The Federalist (or The Federalist Papers) was a series of 85 published essays that argued the need for a strong Constitution.

Alexander Hamilton wrote most of them. John Jay wrote a few on foreign policy. But, James Madison wrote the most famous one, Federalist #10 (see next).
